Luxury brands are not unfamiliar with the changing trend in the automotive industry, which is undoubtedly turning to renewable energies with which they can (and should) make this world sustainable.
This is a trend that high-end brands are already familiar with. This new entry in the Motorbli series follows a protagonist who travels on that path.
He is not unknown because he appeared briefly in another previously written post; however, it is appropriate to dedicate him to a detailed analysis to show readers the benefits provided by the most exclusive cars in this context of sustainability.
The Porsche Taycan is what he is.
Following the presentation of rigor, it is now the appropriate time to unpack the many different aspects and points of view from which one can evaluate the Performance and work that the Porsche Taycan has done.
To be more specific, we are going to talk about its exterior design, the available mechanical structure, the interior equipment, the price, and a brief comparison with another model that is very similar to aid in expanding perspectives.
This battery-powered sedan has a total length of 4.96 meters, a width of 1.97 meters, and a height of 1.38 meters. It also has four doors.
It is important to note that the car that paved the way for the new way forward in 2019 did not feature any of the esthetic innovations, equipment, or improved autonomy introduced in 2018.
Concerning those dimensions that have already been mentioned, it is essential to note that it has a wheelbase estimated to be 2.99 meters and 9 centimeters shorter, 3 centimeters narrower, and 4 centimeters lower than the Panamera.
It is also important to note that it is founded on an exclusive platform for electricity, so it does not share it with other models of the house.
This is something that you should keep in mind.
And it is a model that focuses a great deal on the aerodynamic aspect; the proof that proves it is its aerodynamic coefficient (Cx), which is only 0.22, which is one of the lowest values seen in a production car.
Speaking already of the purely aesthetic, the front of the vehicle displays a highly stylized show, which features two matrix LED headlights that give off a futuristic vibe.
These lights feature two small bumps in the middle that prompt one to consider calling 911.
The representatives of the German manufacturer have acknowledged that the lack of a combustion engine has resulted in a reduction in height and an exaggeration of the hood’s slope.
This detail has further contributed to the distinctive appearance of the front optics.
According to the report presented at the beginning of this article, the body is lowered by 22 centimeters thanks to a new active damper system installed in the front.
Without moving to a new location, the front bumper gills direct incoming air to the braking system and have louvers that can open and close depending on the requirements of the vehicle’s cooling system.
To differentiate the Taycan 4S from the other models, it has black side skirts and an air diffuser, in addition to adaptive LEDs and PDLS Plus lights.
Straight, broad lines dominate the design, and it has sharp, angular profiles.
The roof has a gradual slope that descends towards the back, where the shoulders that give the car its suggestive appearance stand out significantly.
The roof is topped by futuristic and thin headlights that run across the width of the car, and it is in these headlights the letters “Porsche” are rendered in a 3D glass effect.
Beginning in September 2020, it will be available in a range of up to seven distinct colors for its bodywork: metallic mahogany, metallic cherry, metallic pastel pink, metallic chalk, metallic coffee beige, metallic Neptune blue, and metallic ice gray are some of the metallic colors available.
However, there is also an option for a package known as the Carbon Sport Design, which comes with components such as carbon fiber inserts in the lower part of the front area and on both sides by the trim, in addition to carbon fiber fins by the rear diffuser. This package can be purchased separately. Also included are hues that became well-known in the 1990s thanks to the Porsche 911 and its 964 generation and the paint-sampling services Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus.
There are six different iterations of the Porsche Taycan, each of which can be configured with two extra batteries and drive systems.
The various configurations can be outfitted with either a battery referred to as the Performance Battery, which has a gross capacity of 79.2 kWh (net total of 71 kWh), or another storm referred to as the Performance Battery Plus, which has a gross capacity of 93.4 kWh (83.7 kWh net).
The Taycan is one vehicle with access to a single electric motor and a rear-wheel drive configuration.
The answer is yes, and they can transport either of the two batteries that have already been described.
These batteries offer varying degrees of independence and power.
The Performance is associated with a propellant power of 326 horsepower, which can be increased to 408 horsepower with the Overboost, has a top speed of 230 kilometers per hour, accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.4 seconds with Launch Control, can be charged with up to 225 kW, and allows the vehicle to travel 431 kilometers when it is homologated by the WLTP cycle.
In the meantime, the Performance Battery Plus is linked to a unit with 380 horsepower of power, which are approximately 476 potential with Overboost; its range reaches up to 484 kilometers homologated according to the WLTP cycle; it keeps the performance data that has already been outlined, but it welcomes recharges of up to 275 kilowatts, and it maintains the homologation.
Next, we come to the 4S, which, when equipped with its first battery, generates a maximum power output of 435 horsepower (530 with Overboost), 640 Nm of maximum torque, and a range that is homologated to be 407 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
The second goes up to 482 horsepower of power (522 with Overboost) and 464 kilometers of homologated range, but in both cases, boasts a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour and acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just a matter of four seconds.
One step above that is the Taycan Turbo, which only features the battery with the highest Performance.
It is homologated to have a range of 450 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle and has 625 horsepower of power (680 horsepower with Overboost), 850 Newton-meters of maximum torque, and Performance Plus. It has a top speed of 260 kilometers per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.2 seconds.
Finally, the Turbo S is presented as the top-of-the-range model, even though it possesses the same power as the model that came before it.
However, the Overboost feature raises the total amount of power to 761 hp, which results in a maximum torque of 1,025 Nm.
When equipped with the Performance Plus package, it has a range that is reduced to 412 kilometers, which is less than before; however, it keeps its top speed of 260 kilometers per hour and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.8 seconds.
With those 2.99 meters of wheelbase, it can theoretically accommodate five people in the passenger compartment because it has been homologated for it.
Still, the comfort level is improved if only four passengers are traveling. Technology is very prominent in this setting, as evidenced by the fact that the only physical buttons you can access are those on the steering wheel and the satellite controls.
The digital instrument panel has a curved screen measuring 16.8 inches, and the infotainment system has two monitors measuring 10.9 inches each, arranged in the center and just in front of the co-driver.
Both monitors can control the same functions.
The device also has a second screen 8.4 inches in size and haptic response.
This screen controls the temperature and enters text, among other things.
A voice assistant supplements the manual use of the system, and passengers sitting in the second row have access to a fifth screen that allows them to control the infotainment system’s functions.
Leather upholstery, wood trim, carbon fiber, and aluminum are just some of the high-quality materials and finishes that can be found in this vehicle.
It provides vegan options for the cabin and low emissions of carbon dioxide and upholstery made of synthetic materials.
Active safety systems include adaptive cruise control, lane centering and automatic speed adjustment, and other automatic anti-collision, automatic braking, and cross-traffic alert systems.
The level of safety is not in any way lacking. It is important to note that it is equipped with something called 4D, a central control that connects all the chassis systems and analyzes the functions involved in the driving dynamics in real time.
It has an adaptive air suspension with three chambers, electronic damper control PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), and an electromechanical roll stabilization system PDCC Sport (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport) that includes Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.
The suspension is managed by Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM).
In addition, Porsche is developing a function called Plug & Charge, which will make it possible to charge the battery and make the appropriate payment without using a card or mobile application.
The vehicle begins communication with the charging station, which must be compatible with such functionality for the communication to be successful.
The charging begins without any intervention on your part, and payments are handled similarly. The user will be able to take advantage of Remote Park Assist beginning in September 2021.
This functionality allows parking the car outside using a cell phone.
To wrap up this section, there are four different options for driving modes: Normal, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus.
However, you will need to add a fifth individual one, allowing you to tailor the settings to your preferences.
The base model, the Taycan a secas, can be purchased for approximately 85,710 dollars; the Taycan 4S can be purchased for about 109,063 dollars; the Taycan Turbo can be purchased for about 156,374 dollars, and the Taycan Turbo S can be purchased for approximately 190,254 dollars.
The Audi e-Tron GT and the Tesla Model S are the primary competitors in the market.
A brief comparison was made with the automobile above when the American car was featured in a post. Let’s go with the first one that was cited, shall we?
This electric sedan features a more reminiscent design of a coupe, and it is currently in its first generation, which debuted in 2021 when it was first introduced.
It shares the same platform as the Taycan and can provide 646 horsepower and 488 kilometers of autonomy, placing it slightly above our protagonist; however, its Boost mode does not permit it to reach the heights possible with the Overboost seen in these lines.
LEDs are located in the front of the device, while OLED technology optics are located in the rear.
It attracts attention to the pronounced fall of the roof to the trunk, which is more palpable than in the Porsche.
Even though it has a more straightforward layout on the inside, it is still made of high-quality materials. It has a variety of attractive finishes (familiar to many cases, such as aluminum, leather, and wood).
Another characteristic shared by all of these devices is the presence of multiple screens.
Finally, the price at which the entry-level version of the Quattro can be purchased is 106,050 dollars, while the price of the most expensive model, the RS Quattro, is 145,760 dollars. Because of this, the cost is going to be higher.
